In trying to address one of the top 5 health problems in our community
which is high incidence of hypertension, the Team
Pangga conducted a seminar entitled Usapang Presyon: Kontra
Altapresyon focusing on the nature, causes, risk
factors, signs and symptoms, complications, management and monitoring of
hypertension. The participants of the said activity comprise of identified
hypertensive residents as well as their family members.
During
the registration period, the Team Pangga as well as the Red Rangers helped one
another in blood pressure taking. A
seminar kit which includes a brown envelope, ballpen, blank sheet of paper as
well as pamphlet or “High Blood Manwal” was given to each of the participants.
The
activity commenced with a prayer led by Evelyn Buleg, a participant, followed
by the singing of the National Anthem led by Fatimatu Zahra Qassim. The program
was headed by Edward Ariel Tadea who also welcomed the participants of the
seminar. The project director, yours
truly Sherry Mae Nocon, facilitated the interactive quiz which is composed of 5
questions regarding hypertension and prizes were given out to the winners.
Pre-test questionnaires were then distributed to determine the knowledge of the
participants on the basic concepts of hypertension. Unfortunately, our guest
speaker, Dr. Ruzenda B. Ramos, had a conflict with the schedule and was not
able to come; however, 2 Level IV medical students took over and gave the
lecture on the said topic. After the lecture, an open forum was done as we
clarified the issues concerning hypertension. Post-test questionnaires were
then distributed. It was followed by the awarding of certificates and tokens to
our guest speakers, Ms. Maria Caselyn F. Lopez and Ms. Sarah Lizette S. Aquino as
well as to the participants.
During
the event, it was evident that everyone is eager to learn about hypertension
since this condition is very common among the residents. They verbalized that
they have learned a lot from the seminar and also they enjoyed the program.
